Note: Some cars may not be present at the launch of the game.
Derelicts are old cars that you can rebuild once you collect enough parts for a car. Parts are car specific.

Currencies
  • Speed Points - Premium currency, obtainable only with real world money.
  • Part tokens - Used for the Targeted Roll. Obtained from shipments and by exchanging a speed card.
  • Bank - In-game cash obtained by winning races, completing challenges, etc.

Shipments
  • The loot box of this game.
  • Premium shipments are obtainable only by using Speed Points.
  • Base shipments can be obtained by using speed points, levelling up, completing specific challenges
  • Base shipments contain 1 vanity item, part tokens, and cash.
  • Premium shipments give 2 wild cards in addition to what a base shipment gives.

Events and cars
They do not have level scaling, hence your car's level has to be in the ballpark of the recommended level of the race; otherwise the AI may be too fast for your car.
There are different event types and require cars of the same type. Car types are: race, off-road, drag, drift, runner. Note: A car's type cannot be changed after purchase.

Performance customization
  • Done using Speed Cards
  • Speed cards are not transferable. They are locked to the car you obtained/purchased it for.
  • There is a probability of obtaining a speed card after you win a race.
  • Speed cards can be purchased from Part Shops
  • The speed cards available in part shops refreshes ~every 30 min
  • Part cards can also be acquired via the Targeted Roll
  • Targeted roll is like a slot machine; takes 3 Part Tokens
  • You have 3 parameters; category, brand, and perk, of which you can specify one parameter
  • Better Speed cards is not guaranteed
  • Categories are: Block, Head, Turbo, Exhaust, ECU, Transmission
  • Perks include Nitrous, Jump, Air, etc
  • Having multiple cards of the same brand gives an additional brand bonus

Visual customization
There are no body kits, the body parts have been unlinked, facilitating more customization options. Uses in-game cash.

Vanity items
Can only be obtained from shipments. Consists of horns, coloured tire smoke, coloured nitrous, air suspension.

Police
Only present in the event Bait Crates. The event can be described as a Sprint Time Challenge with police only until the end of the race.
There are no free-roam cops as of the launch of the game.
Also, bait crates are RNG, They randomly spawn, and they are also on a timer.
Police vehicles: Crown Victoria, Dodge Charger SRT8, Corvette GS, Rhino(SWAT Van), Helicopter.
Police special tactics: Spike strips, KIllswitch - "Youíre going to need to physically shunt the cops targeting you in order to break the lock".

Shops
  • Garages - There are now 5 garages. You buy additional garages. Owning all 5 garages grants you unlimited space for cars.
  • Part shops - For performance parts, the stock keeps changing every ~30 min.
  • Dealerships - Car shops, not all shops have all cars.
  • Gas stations - Refills nitrous and repairs all visual damage.

This game looks so damn real it's unbelievable.

I'm tempted to get it but I'm curious about the cars included in the special edition. Are they available in the normal edition and the special edition simply gives you pre-tuned ones, or are they locked unless you get it?

The Platinum Car Pack is actually a pre-order bonus, it's not part of the Deluxe Edition.
It has cars with special presets, and no, the cars themselves are not exclusive.
Also, before purchase, I suggest you read through the Game details section and also read up on the opinions about the end game many players have on the NFS subreddit.

I've already seen some of the feedback on it, that's why I'm torn at its current price. Thanks for the info on the pack though.

I was thinking about buying this but the Destructoid review in progress was pretty brutal. I'll wait for some streams after it's released and see what I think.

Ghost games actually made a great game then ruined it with the loot boxes, grinding needed and quite bad popin. Shame but still a fun game anyway.

Oh that's an absolute dealbreaker for me.

The OG Most Wanted was one of my favorite games on X360.

I basically want that with new cars. Is that too much to ask for, PapEA? =(

Iím over 10 hours in and having a lot of fun with it. If you know what to expect from NFS, youíll enjoy it. Driving is fun, car selection is good and modding is great.

The loot box/currency system has not been an issue so far. I have more cards than I need to get through the story and have not grinded at all.

The setting and characters donít appeal to me as much as NFS 2015 did, but theyíre still good. Thereís a ton of stuff to do in the game. Iím going for the platinum.

One of my friends bought the PS4 version and hated it so much that he brought the disc over earlier.

I've only spent a couple of hours on it but this seems incredibly poor, somehow it's even worse than the last Need for Speed and far inferior to Rivals. Some of the gameplay decisions make no sense at all, the fact that when you're on the run from the police that it only allows you to follow a preset route is ridiculous. It's just not about escaping from them but following checkpoints and getting to the final one within a set time and you can't even improvise the route to get to your destination as you have to pass through every checkpoint.

The police don't even seem to be in the game if you're not doing a story mission and when you are in a story mission the streets seem almost entirely devoid of civilian cars through some parts of the missions.

The number of times that the game takes control of your car and turns it into a cutscene just as you're about to do something interesting like hit a ramp absolutely kills this for me and because the cutscenes are pre-rendered they don't seem to tie in with what's happening in the actual game.

Ghost Games have released three of these titles and although Rivals was hardly an amazing game they have somehow managed to get worse with each release and many of the issues come from basic design decisions such as the ones that I've mentioned. I sincerely hope that they're not allowed to get their hands on another driving game anytime soon.

The handling itself is sort of OK but it all feels very safe, very bland and there's absolutely no sense of speed in the game.

I love arcade racers but even I feel that I've been overcharged for the game and I haven't actually paid anything for it. I know it's not reviewed well but I do feel that the high 60s it's receiving are far too high. I know I've only played a few hours but in those few hours even the most basic structures that Ghost Games have set up are suggest that there isn't any point to play on, it's almost like it teases you that it's going to be fun before putting as many obstacles in your way to stop you reaching that fun.

It can't be worse than NFS '15 can it? I really enjoyed Rivals but 15 was trash tier to me. This is 2 NFS titles that I haven't bought in a row now. I always buy NFS games.

Sacking Black Box was a mistake. And I wish EA had let Ghost Games, AKA shuttered Criterion, continue making Burnout games. Even if they were just $20 or budget titles.

I'm so used to people hating on NFS games that I loved that I'm not sure how much I should believe it this time around. Heck, I even liked NFS 2015 with it's lame duck cops.

I really want this... I'm sure I'll enjoy it... but dang, it's hard when so many people talk it down. But they also talked down MW and Rivals, both of which I loved.

For me, it is defiantly worse, For all the faults that the last game had, and it had many, it was at least consistent about it's world. This is essentially two separate worlds in one, there's the open world which has no police in it but you can drive around freely in and there's the story world which introduces the police but also reduces everything to a basic A to B path which doesn't allow you to veer off the predefined route. It wouldn't even be so bad if it was an A to B route that allowed you to define your own path but the checkpoints happen so regularly that the roads may as well be cordoned off.

There's nothing wrong with being a linear racer but it's the nonsensical mix of the two worlds in a single game that removes all the fun of playing an open world driving game. In reality, when playing the story missions it's no more an open world racer than the original Ridge Racer that had set routes in a single location. Obviously it's greatly expanded here but it's really best not to think of it as an open world.

I enjoyed Rivals too but I think the main let down for me was that it followed Most Wanted and which was so much better and looking back at Rivals now I think it's clear to see the start of the issues that ruined the the following two games beginning to creep in.

As I have pointed out though, I have only spent a couple of hours or so playing the game so it may improve but it obviously sets up the main structures of the game right from the beginning so it's difficult to imagine it improving moving forwards with those structures in place.

I've got it for a couple of days so I will return to it but I am so glad hat I didn't hand over any money for it as I'm really disappointed without paying anything for it.

The reasoning behind no open world cops is because they listened to feedback from players who were getting annoyed by getting into random pursuits when all they were trying to do was get to a destination.

Although the devs didn't explain why when you do get into police pursuits that it's a linear chase, I'm guessing it's because they had a hard time balancing the aggressiveness of the cops which would affect how long the pursuit would last.

so sad to see this cant believe i have to load up NFS MW from 2005 to get some good police chases and AI there should be some good mods for PC now, havent played it but will get during BF

what happen to all the good franchises from late 90s to early 00s? NFS, wwe games, tony hawk, even COD stop changing shit and adding stuff noone ever asked for is it so hard to take a existing formula and just give us better graphics and online?

the last good NFS was 05 MW, 2010 hot pursuit was a very good polished game but it wasnt a street racer NFS game the undergrounds and 05 MW is what NFS is know for

i had hopes for this b/c of the open world looks the most diverse and that cops would be more of a main focus 15 was a joke when it came to cop chases devs got lazy with the AI someone was sleeping on the job they should be fired

speed and pursuits breakers should of never been removed from the series if you dont want to slow down time dont use it i though it was a nice feature when racing and made it less stressful taking turns or dodging traffic and it looks and feels so damn good when using it

some simple things can be fixed here with a patch but i wouldnt hold my breath for big changes i would make

add free roam police chases with no check points they can still keep there dog shit checkpoints for the story mode as it be harder to patch in

ease up on the grinding something simple like increasing the amount of cards, cash you get after completing races

two simple fixes that im sure would make the world for difference

EA placed Mass Effect on a shelf after one bad game but this is the second in a franchise that turned out to be absolute shit.

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds by Bluehole, Inc. is one of the most popular games in the world. You can buy it for $29.99 on Steam.

See you on the Battlegrounds!

Once again neogaf (and some other sites) saved me 60 bucks. Too bad to see this franchise go. Very fond childhood memories from the first 3 games and underground and most wanted.

I can understand that it may not have worked for some people but they've dealt with it in the most heavy handed way possible. It's akin to people complaining about way the tackling in FIFA feels so next year they just remove the tackling completely. It may stop people complaining about how the tackling feels but it's removed something that is a really important part of what the game actually is.

They've dealt with the issue but due to the heavy handed way that they've chosen to deal with it they've changed the fundamentals of the game. I'm slightly worried this year that people are going to complain about the overly basic handling model just incase they decide to fix it next year by removing all the cars from the game.

I don't enjoy criticising a developer because it's an incredibly difficult thing to do but I'm genuinely surprised that Ghost Games are still allowed to make these games, I would assume that they're somehow still making money from them.

The real issue with the game for me is that the most fundamental of design choices are simply broken, they're not fit for purpose for the game that they've been forced into. With things being broken on such a fundamental level that it ruins the entire game.

Drop anything openworld, bring back split screen and embrace the destruction of Burnout 3 and Revenge. For those that played Burnout 3, no game in the past 20 years has come close to touching the pure joy that was Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge .

OK, I've had enough of this now, the more I play it the worse it gets.

Just spent some time exploring to see what I could find, in the city I found my first multi-storey car park so thought I'd try doing exactly what you'd expect in games like this. So I drive in and bang my car hits something and stops, I think maybe I've come into contact with one of the side walls by the entrance so reverse and try again and no, I haven't hot a side wall I've actually hit an invisible wall that's blocking the entrance even though it shows as wide open.

What makes it worse is that when you get out into the desert they're still using invisible walls to prevent you from going places. Although the desert isn't quite just a road because it does in some places widen the routes a bit but at no point is it truly an open world.

I think the last Need for Speed looked OK but that was set at night so I'm thinking that it hid a lot of the graphical inadequacies but because this doesn't lock you to driving at night it's a lot easier to pick out the graphical issues. i'm playing this on the Pro and although I haven't pixel counted, I really don't think that this is even running at a native 1080p.

Another of the graphical issues is the pop-in, you can see things being drawing around you on several occasions and I'm getting incidents of things like the shadows not appearing until I'm already under the bridge so the shadow actually appears around me.

That's bad enough but the game moves so slowly that the graphical shortcomings are so much more noticeable.

I have the game until Monday when I'm handing the game back to my friend so he can trade it in but I really can't play this anymore, I hate dismissing games in this way but I honestly can't think of anything positive to say about it.
